MENDHAR: The inhabitants of Mendhar Town have complained that Nallah Mendhar has been turned into garbage dump with locals disposing of waste into it. According to the residents, the RDD employees (Sweeper) and people residing near the Nallah are throwing garbage and other waste material into it every day and the concerned Rural Development Department Mendhar officials were turning blind eye towards the issue.
The garbage is seen scattered here and there and it is difficult to pass through the potholes in middle of the road, whereas the drains of the area are also not even properly cleaned, locals said. While the park, which was made with a purpose to provide people some space to relax and stay afresh, is also in shambles as it is not being properly maintained and looked after properly.
“Due to the Holy month of Ramadan we have complained to the authorities many times, but to no avail,” Mohd Lateef, Shahid farooq and Ajaz Kohli local residents, said. To top it all the RDD and Local administration failed to do its job as the garbage that was meant to be picked up blocked the drains and trash thrown outside the bins got washed away in the streets.
The residents have appealed to the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to personally visit these areas and if the problem cannot be addressed at the local level, may be brought to the notice of District Development Commissioner Poonch for redressal.
