About 1000 hrs Divisional Commissioner Jammu requested the Air Force authorities for an immediate airlift of the victims of a bus accident that had taken place at Keshwan in Kishtwar district. After due clearances the helicopter unit located at Jammu which specialises in HADR (Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief) operations was tasked for the merci mission .

The first aircraft was airborne within an hour and another aircraft was prepared for subsequent requirement. With the accident taking toll of many people, it also left many injured and in need of critical medical service. The first aircraft airlifted seven casualties and four attendants. Due to more number of casualties and the requirement of civil administration second helicopter was launched which airlifted five casualties and five attendants.

Under deteriorating weather conditions at Kishtwar, timely action by the IAF helicopters ensured immediate evacuation of critically injured survivors to receive the required medical treatment at Jammu at the earliest possible manner.
