MENDHAR 24 JULY: Several residential houses and other structures were partially damaged in intense cross-LoC mortar shelling and firing in Balnoi and other villages in KG and Mankote sectors of Mendhar Sub division of Poonch District on last night.
The officials said that the Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling at Balnoi, Mankote, Dabraj, Sagra and other five villages across entire Krishna Ghati sector.
They added that many mortar shells landed into residential area.
During the mortal shelling many houses were partally damaged and five chattle injured in the Pakistani firing in Balnoi area in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch.
The shelling also kept the local people awake whole night, the local sources said.
Reports said that in an exchange of firing at Krishna Ghati Sector many residential house belonging to Mohd Latief S/o Noor Mohd, Haji Kaka S/o Sabhs Din, Mohd Mushtaq S/o Kaka all are residents of Balnoi suffered damages.
Reports also suggest that due to the continuous shelling and firing, the people have restricted theirs movement and have confined themselves to their houses.
SDM Mendhar Sahil Jandyal confirmed several house partially damage due to Pakistani army fired mortar bombs and automatic weapons along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sector of Mendhar.
He said the authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and rushed police teams to affected areas to ensure prompt assistance to the people.
People were asked to stay indoors and not to touch any suspicious object as it could be an unexploded mortar shell, he said.
