*DC Rajouri holds preparatory meeting for elections to Block Development Councils* _2689 Panchayat Representatives constitute the Electoral College in Rajouri_

Rajouri,September,06: In compliance to instructions issued recently in a VC by the Chief Electoral Officer Jammu & Kashmir for preparatory activities for conduct of election to Block Development Councils in the district, District Election Officer,Rajouri,Mohammad Aijaz Asad today convened a meeting with the concerned officers here in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dakbunglow.

A threadbare discussion was held during the meeting on various issues including security arrangements for contesting candidates and polling staff,polling/counting stations,transportation of election material to the block Headquarters,transportation of election material to the polling stations etc.

The Assistant Commissioner Development, Akhter Qazi informed that the total electoral roll in the district is 2689 in all the 312 panchayats including 1831 males and 858 females.It was further informed in the meeting that the preparation of electoral roll shall start from 09th september and the date of publication of draft electoral roll shall be 14th of september.He said that the last date of filling of claims & objections and last date for disposal of claims and objections is 19th and 21st of september respectively.He added that final electoral roll shall be published on 23rd of september,2019.It was further informed that there are 19 polling stations in the district.

The Block development officers informed about the strength of electoral college in the panchayats of their respective blocks.

The DDC asked Additional SP Layaqat Ali to provide security plan by 9th of September for onward submission to the Chief Electoral Officer J&K. He directed BDOs to submit the name and location of RO Headquarter and polling stations within two days.The Transport Department was directed to prepare transportation plan for the smooth dispatch of polling parties and their receiving at the collection centers. The DDC asked the officers involved in the election process to put their best efforts and work in a synergized manner to ensure free,fair and transparent elections in the district. It is worthwhile to mention that BDC elections are being held for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri,Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera,Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunderbani,Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalakote, Subdivisional magistrate thanamandi,Assistant Regional transport officer,Assistant Commissioner Development,Election Naib tehsildar,concerned Block Development officers and others.
