Shopkeepers fleecing residents of Mendhar during COVID-19 lockdown



Mendhar: Residents of Mendhar sub division are allegedly being evacuated to far-flung areas by shopkeepers trading essential commodities during the COVID-19 lockdown, which made their lives difficult due to lack of resources is.

Sources told that JK NEWS UPDATES shopkeepers in Mendhar town and rural areas have been taking advantage of this lockout and selling essential commodities at exorbitant rates.Many consumables are being sold for double prizes.

Apart from this, other commodities like potatoes,onions and others vegetables items  are also being sold at higher rates, which can be traced to the fact that these goods which were sold at the rate of Rs 20-30 per kg before lockdown, are now sold. The   rate of going 50-60 rupees, which is beyond the reach of poor people living in remote areas.

People have appealed to the Mendhar administration to take strict action against shopkeepers who are driving people away during these testing times, when the entire state is under threat of COVID 19.

When Tehsildar Mendhar Dr. Vikram Kumar was contacted in this regard, he said that action would be taken against the defaulters. He further said that after receiving many such complaints, the administration has formed several teams to inspect and investigate black marketing so that people can get the essential goods at real cost.
