Mendhar 15 May: Resident of Mohalla Choki ward no 1,2 of Mendhar tehsil in border district of Poonch have been without drinking water from past five years, the residents alleged that today, one is scared of the corona virus, and the other is no water supply last five years. They also alleged In 2018, we gave a written letter to the officials of the PHE department Mendhar. He was not excused, the PHE department is discriminating with some houses which is causing trouble for us.
“The water to our ward no 1,2 some houses was effect for last Five years but since then we are without drinking water facility. Our women have to walk in to fetch water from wells and streams,” said a local.
Locals of area Ashok Sharma,Rahul Sharma,Subash Chander, Gulshan Kumar,Rajneesh sudan “The water supply has been cut off from the past Five years. It has proved disastrous for the poor people of the wards in Mendhar Town. We cannot afford to instal water pumps in our homes. So, people are forced to bring water from the wells and streams.”
He said, “Most families, who are dependent on the public water supply, are poor. We are not in a position to instal water pumps in our houses. While lashing out at Sarpanch, Panch and politicians, the residents added that they come to their village only at the time of elections. “First they come, seek votes in the name of providing basic civic facilities but after winning polls, they disappear till next elections. The Panch and Sarpanch simply betray poor masses,” the locals.
The local people have demanded from District Development Commissioner Poonch and Chief Engineer Jammu that their problem should be taken seriously and the water problem should be resolved otherwise we will be forced to come to the road.
When contacted to Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Vikaram Kumar regarding this matter He said, “The issue has not been brought into my notice. I will look into the matter for a timely solution of the problem.”
