NAGROTA, June: In Continuation to its war against drugs spearheaded by SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil (IPS) police today arrested a driver along with 275 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) in Jhajjar kotli.
As per police sources, team from Jhajjar kotli police station raised a naka at suketar and signaled a truck bearing registeration no PB07X/1790 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the truck driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops thwarted his design and intercepted the truck.
During comprehensive checking, police recovered 275 kilograms poppy straw (bhukki) from the vehicle which was concealed in special cavities formed in the truck.
The accused driver identified as Kuldeep Singh s/o Hardyal Singh r/o Bhagoran, District Nawashehar punjab was arrested.
In this connection Fir no. 97/2020 u/s 8/15/25ndps act registered at p/s jhajjar kotli and further investigation was taken up to unearth the racket.
The arrest of the accused and recovery of consignment was made by SHO jhajjar kotli Rajesh Khajuria under supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma and overall supervision of SP Rural Suram Singh.
Jammu police has requested public to cooperate and strengthen the hands of police to weed out the social evil of drug menace by providing information regarding any type of activities of Nacrosmugglers in their area to police.
