No Extra Chance For Those Who Exhausted Last UPSC Attempt In 2020: Supreme Court

No extra chance will be given to UPSC aspirants who exhausted their last attempt in October 2020, the Supreme Court said today, dismissing a plea that sought another shot at the civil service examination due to the coronavirus pandemic and also wanted a relaxation on the age limit.
The government had agreed to another chance at the examination for those whose last attempt was in 2020 but not the one-time relaxation on the age limit that the petition asked for.
The petitioners wanted one extra chance as they could not prepare well for the last year exam due to the pandemic. They also wanted age barred candidates be given another chance.
Every year stipulates six attempts for general candidates till the age of 32 years. The OBC candidates have nine attempts till 35 years while SC/ST candidates have unlimited attempts till they attain 37 years.
Over 2,000 candidates who appeared last year were age barred and will stand benefited if an extra chance was provided to appear this year.
