As new wine shops are about to open in Jammu according to the new excise policy, residents seem unhappy with the decision. The locals of New Plot area today stood against the Administration’s decision and demanded ban on wine shops in their area.
“Opening of 3 wine shops have been ordered in 600 metres area. Our shop on rent is nearby our house. Inspite of denying for wine shop, the current owner initiated electricity work. On asking, he misbehaved with us.” a resident of New Plot said
The shop owner denied the allegations of misbehaviour. He said he isn’t completely in favour of the opening wine shop but needs to do something for earning.
“I’m neither against nor in support of wine shops in Jammu. In past we had a meat shop here. The lady refused for that too. I sometimes agree with her but we have to do something for our daily bread.” He said
The lady and her daughter complained about a low rent of their shop and refused for the wine shop.
“We get only 600 rupees rent for the shop which is too less. Keeping it aside, we wrote application to the Mayor for not allowing the wine shops to open in our area. The shop has a Temple opposite to it. In any case we will not allow a wine shop to open here.” She said
“It is Administration’s fault to have given licences for wine shops. No one asks the poor these days. We gave our shop on rent for some good work not for such practices that make people sad.” She added
