Unemployed Dentists in Jammu and Kashmir UT protested against the Administration and demanded for government jobs. According to them, the Government hasn’t provided them chance since 2008 and now is the time to backup.
“In 2008 Government issued posts for Dentists in J&K. In 2014, a protest for 55 days was conducted. We met every party of the State including BJP but only assurances were given. No result can be seen yet. At present 7000 Dentists are unemployed in J&K and it’s the matter of their families.” Dr. Asif Iqbal said
“More than 500 Dentists have become overaged for govt. jobs without giving JKPSC exams. Himachal Government issues 50-100 posts every year. Our file of 587 Dentist posts is denied every time by the Finance Department excusing shortage of funds. If they lack funds, why is Dental Infrastructure being modified with 350 students passing out every year?” He added
As per Dr. Iqbal’s data, only 543 Doctors have been posted through JKPSC while WHO suggests a ratio of 1:10000 Dental surgeons in rural areas and 1:7500 Dental surgeons for urban areas.
“Not only Doctors but patients are suffering too. These days when Black Fungus is most concerning matter due to lack of oral health hygiene, Dentists aren’t taken seriously. Patients are more and Dental surgeons on duty are less comparatively.” He said
He further added that the Dental surgeons in Jammu and Kashmir should be given chances to serve the UT and play their role in helping the patients.
