Weather Update of Jammu Kashmir: Check Here

Rains along with gusty winds in parts of Jammu Kashmir on Thursday gave some respite from the heat wave.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has said that there is no forecast “of any major rainfall” for next one week in Jammu and Kashmir.

Director MeT, Sonam Lotus said that isolated parts of Kashmir Thursday afternoon witnessed light to moderate rains bringing relief from the heat wave. “Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms occurred at most places of Kashmir and dissipated gradually after several hours,” Lotus said.

Lotus said prevailing weather conditions will continue for the next two days. However, there is no forecast of any major rainfall for the next few days, Lotus added.

He said due to absence of any strong weather system like the ‘western disturbance’, Jammu and Kashmir has received deficient rainfall during June.

As per MeT data, summer capital Srinagar on Thursday recorded 31 degrees Celsius which was 1.4 degrees Celsius above normal. Ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest with a high of 23 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam recorded the maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, Qazigund 30 degrees Celsius and Kupwara recorded 31.7 degree Celsius respectively.
