At least six police personnel suffered injuries when villagers opposing the opening of liquor shops, attacked the police party in Domana area here on Thursday in the city outskirts.
The police booked 16 people including women.
“So far we have registered FIRs against 16 people, who staged a protest and pelted stones at the police party assisting the shop owners of licensed liquor shops to open their shops,” a police officer here said on Thursday.
He asserted that when some workers reached the spot to open the shop in the Machine Domana area, the villagers opposed it, staged a protest and blocked the road by burning tyres.
“The protestors started pelting stones when the senior officers tried to pacify them following which force was used to disperse them,” he added.
“Around six policemen suffered injuries,” he said and added that 16 villagers have been booked and action will soon be initiated against them.
