On Tuesday, Panther’s Party demanded a government holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, who merged Jammu and Kashmir with India. Panther’s Party staged a protest in the Jewel area of Jammu and demanded that 23rd September should be marked as the gazetted holiday.
While talking to the media, JKPP Senior leader Gagan Pratap Said, “we’re protesting against the fake promise of BJP. During the elections, BJP promised that if they came into power, they would mark 23rd September as Gazetted holiday. Panther’s Party is supporting tomorrow’s Jammu Bandh call. This Bandh is not only for shopkeepers but also for those struggling after BJP came into power in J&K”.
JKPP General Secretary Yashpal Kundal said, “when the BJP was in opposition, it used to demand a government holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, but after forming the government with the PDP, Maharaja Hari, who merged Jammu and Kashmir with India, the party didn’t even remember Maharaj’s Birthday.”Now Article 370 and 35A have been abolished from Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the Lieutenant Governor should declare a government holiday on the birthday of the Maharaja”, he added.
