In view of Union Finance Minister Sitharaman’s visit to Jammu, the Yuva Rajput Sabha closed the main Tawi bridge connecting the city to demand a government holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. Due to this, there was a traffic jam in the entire city for hours. Thousands of vehicles were stuck on flyovers and other roads from the bridge. Although during the demonstration, the protestors came to their senses, the slogans of the Lieutenant Governor kept resonating.
The youth also gheraoed former MLA Devendra Singh Rana, a BJP leader stuck in a jam after the opened Tawi bridge. Removed them from the car and told them that if their demand is not met soon, then the leader will be surrounded in the same way. Rana assured that he would try to take the demand of Yuva Rajput Sabha to the Lieutenant Governor.
The protesters first gathered at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, and when the time came for the program to be held at Jammu University from the Raj Bhavan of the Lieutenant Governor, the protesters came on the Tawi bridge and closed the Tawi bridge on sight. Hundreds of vehicles were seen seeing the bridge being closed. Got jammed. Within a short time, the traffic system of the entire city came to a standstill. At the same time, the movement of the Lieutenant Governor was made towards the Gujjar Nagar bridge. Due to which ordinary people were not being allowed to go to that side also. Due to which the condition was such that the one who was here had to be stuck in a jam there for hours.
Despite the information about the demonstration of Yuva Rajput Sabha, no such arrangement was made by the police that the bridge should not be closed. Even after the protesters came to the bridge, no effort was made by the police to remove them. Speeches continued for an hour on Tawi bridge7 Slogans continued, and the police remained mute spectators watching the spectacle. Although the second bridge was open for those who entered the city, the traffic system got so broken that the traffic police, often busy cutting challans, could not understand how to deal with such a situation.
Rajan Singh Happy, president of Yuva Rajput Sabha, who is leading the protest, said that for the past many years, the people of Jammu have been demanding a holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. But there is no one to listen to them. So their demand is being taken lightly. Due to which he performed this because of the visit of the Union Finance Minister so that his voice could reach the centre. Many times a memorandum has been submitted to the Lieutenant Governor regarding the demand for leave on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. Still, he did not pay any attention to it, due to which they had to close the Tawi bridge today.
The protesters warned that if their demand were not met, there would be similar demonstrations on the visit of every Union minister. He said that to preserve Dogra heritage and culture, it is necessary to first declare a holiday on the birth anniversary of his last Dogra ruler. The protesters later lifted the Tawi bridge because of the problems of the people and then the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh. Went towards
