Poonch: March,07: A group of 50 farmers from Poonch ,Surankote and Mendher Sub Divisions of Poonch District was flagged off by the District Development Commissioner Poonch Inder Jeet (KAS) for 5 days Krishi Mela at SKUAST- Jammu.
The Krishi Mela is being organized by SUKAST-Jammu in collaboration with Deptt. of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Jammu.
The District Development Commissioner Poonch while interacting with the farmers, exhorted upon them to get updated with the latest innovations in Integrated Farming System comprising Crop Production, Vegetable Cultivation, Mushroom growing, Bee Keeping, Vermi Composting & cultivation of Spices especially Garlic. He also impressed upon the farmers to interact with the Farm Scientists & Research workers to know & learn about the latest methodology of crops and asked the farmers to get fully acquainted with the latest technologies models displayed in the Krishi Mela about the Farming being popularized in hilly Agriculture.
On the occasion Chief Agriculture Officer Sh. Rakesh Kumar Sharma apprised the District Development Commissioner about the initiative taken by the Department for doubling the income of the farmers by introducing cultivation of Mushroom especially in the mono cropped areas of the Poonch District in the present favourable climate which will fetch handsome returns of the cash crop that too in the off season.
District Agriculture Officer (Ext) Poonch, Assistant Soil Chemist Poonch, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Poonch & other Field Officers of the deptt. were also present on the occasion.
