INDIAN ARMY ORGANISES AFFORESTATION DRIVE IN
KRISHNA GHATI SECTOR

In line with the global outcry for saving the environment, Indian Army in Krishna Ghati Sector, conducted an Afforestation Drive at Balnoi Base involving the youth & students of local schools of border area of Poonch district.
The event was themed around International Forest Day which is celebrated on 21 March every year across the globe. The involvement of the youth & school children was overwhelming and a total of 450 saplings were planted by the youth & students present for the Afforestation Drive.

Seven Forest Officials including Mr Arif Mira, Range Officer, Mendhar Forest Division and Mr Farooq Ahmed, Block Forest Officer, Mankote were present during the event. Mr Arif Mirza conducted an awareness lecture for the locals & children to educate them on the importance of trees & the benefits of afforestation.


The noble initiative of the Indian Army witnessed mass participation of locals and has struck a positive chord with them to bring about a positive change in the green cover of the area around the Poonch district in the long term.
