Mahant Rohit Shastri met with former chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Maharaj Dr. Karan singh Ji (Padma Vibhushan) and requested to convert Shri Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya birpur as Adarsh Mahavidyalaya.

Jammu/Srinagar :- Today Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust, President Mahant Rohit Shastri met with former chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Maharaj Dr. Karan singh ji at Karan Mahal Srinagar. On the occasion, Mahant Rohit Shastri presented a book to Maharaj Dr. Karan Singh Ji and drew his kind attention to the problems being faced by Sanskrit students and scholars . Shastri requested that efforts Should be taken in the UT of j&k for converting Shri Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya Birpur, as Adarsh Mahavidhalaya to be function through Minstry of HRD. There are Mahavidhalaya in all most states except J&k . If this institution is approved by the concerned ministry, all the financial assistance shall be allocate by the HRD ministry and by doing this the sanskrit language can be promoted on larger extent U.T of J&K.

Mahant Rohit shastri said Devvani Sanskrit is the mother of all languages, and the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir has contributed significantly to Sanskrit Language and literature. This sacred land has produced many renowned Sanskrit poets and scholars i.e. Abhinavgupta, Kalhana, Bilhana etc. In recent history, Maharaja Ranbireshwar wanted to make Jammu as the Kashi of the North and as such had invited many Sanskrit scholars from Varanasi to develop Jammu as a major seat of Sanskrit Knowledge and literature. Due to his efforts, Jammu till recently had a very strong tradition of Sanskrit scholarship. Sanskrit Pandits of Jammu and Kashmir were respected all over the country. This was one the factors due to which a large number of temples came up in the city and Jammu came to be known as ” The City of Temples”.But it pains me to say that tradition of Sanskrit has been dying a certain death due to apathy, and even antagonism of the powers that were at the helm of affairs in the state till recently. The students pursuing their further studies in Sanskrit language and aspiring to have their career in this field are suffering a lot due to an apalling dearth of educational facilities and career opportunities in Sanskrit.
