Live electric wires on wooden poles in Border Villages, Peoples on Risk 

The people of the border rural areas are falling prey to the neglect of the PDD department.


MENDHAR, Aug 5: Apprehending insecurity in the locality, the residents of LOC Village Ghani area of Balnoi village today expressed serious concern over hanging of electricity wires with wooden poles and trees in the areas and said that concerned Power Development Department (PDD) is least concerned over safety concerns of people of Mendhar Sub division of district Poonch.

Accusing the PDD Mendhar Sub Division of putting the lives of residents in danger by not aligning the electricity transmission lines on the electric poles, the locals of Ghani, Sagara, Balnoi and other Areas  Mohd Rashid, Imran Khatana and others said that the wires let to hang upon wooden poles which can make people prone to electrocution during rainy days.

The department has failed to install the electric poles and the transmission lines can be seen hanging from the wooden poles, the residents said, adding the transmission lines were lying very low to the ground thus posing a severe danger to the lives of people of the area,” they said.

Local resident made repeated requests to the PDD High officials seeking alignment of transmission lines on the electric poles but they alleged that their pleas have fallen to deaf ears till date. The residents also complained that the electric wires were broken at various places in the Border villages.

JK-BADC Chairman and Former VC Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik  appeal the Jammu Kashmir UT LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and issue orders to PDD to install new poles lying at PDD stations in the area, so that the people may feel safe and secure. 

SDM Mendhar Jangir Khan said that many complaints have been received with my office  regarding this problem, in which the villagers told that in our village either live electric wires are hanging on trees or wooden poles.  He said that I spoke to the Power Devlopment department official about this whole matter and asked him to immediately go to those areas and replace the wooden bridges.
